Exterior mahogany door set
A pair of solid mahogany entry doors with matching sidelights, built for Florida sun and afternoon storms.
The challenge
What made it hard.
The original doors had cupped and delaminated in four years of west-facing sun and driving rain. The replacement had to survive the same exposure, meet the county's wind-borne debris requirements and still look like furniture from the driveway.
The solution
How we built it.
Leaves were built as engineered stile-and-rail with a laminated core so seasonal movement stays under control, joinery set in marine epoxy, and all six faces sealed before hanging. The finish is a UV-stable exterior system on a maintenance schedule we leave with the owner. Hardware and threshold were detailed with the GC to hit the impact rating without a storefront look.
